Carli Lloyd had an amazing night with 5 goals in the United States 9–0 rout of Paraguay. The first team that the United States would play after getting the bronze medal in Summer Olympics last month in Tokyo would have a tough evening. It was the United States from start to finish. There were other players who made an impact. Lynn Williams and Tobin Heath would both score goals. Mallory Pugh who is doing well in the NWSL had three assists. Andi Sullivan had two goals. There is another match against Paraguay on Tuesday at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The United States was without Megan Rapinoe, Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher, and Sam Mewis due to injuries. Christen Press opted out due to prioritizing her mental health. This could open the door for young talent to get a chance.
There are two matches against South Korea set for October in Minneapolis and Kansas City. There is a chance to play in Australia for two matches during November. However, Australia is currently in lockdown due to COVID-19 so that is up in the air. The U.S. has little time to implement younger players since the 2023 World Cup qualifying starts next year.
