The U.S. Women’s Soccer team started 2023 year with two wins against New Zealand. They played at two of the sites for the 2023 FIFA World Cup this Summer. Tonight it was the SheBelieves Cup against Canada down in Orlando, Florida. Mallory Swanson scored goals in the 7th and 37th minute to give the United States a 2–0 win. Alex Morgan had two assists on both goals and was honored for her 200th cap before the game. The United States will play against Japan this Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tennesee. Canada gave a great effort, but they were distracted.

The distraction was Canada Women’s team is suing their federation over pay equity, transparency over finances, and significant budget cuts. They wanted to strike but were forced to play by their federation. They wore purple shirts and stood next to the United States in the midfield circle in a show of solidarity before the game.
