On Friday afternoon, The United States Women’s Soccer team played their first match since the She Believes Cup in March. They took on the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 World Cup Final. Despite being off for 8 months the United States was dominating over the Dutch. They had some chances early in the match. Rose Lavelle took a pass from Kristen Press and scored in the 41st minute to give the U.S. a 1–0 lead at halftime.
The second half had a lot of substitutions and Kristie Mewis scored her first goal in her return to the national team since 2013. The goal occurred in the 70th minute to make the final score 2–0 in favor of the United States. Alex Morgan made her return from having her baby girl Charlie in May. The final score should have been 4–0 if two goals from Press and Morgan were not called offsides. The United States didn’t have Carli Lloyd and Megan Rapinoe due to injuries. There will be a camp in January and maybe some matches in February.
